Work at Tru72

Tools on the truck. Real training. A family-owned crew that pays for the gauges, then pays for the training, then pays the technician.

Tru72 Heating & Cooling is a family-owned Oregon HVAC company with roots dating back to 1972. The defining feature of the work is the diagnostic-first methodology: every service call begins with instrumented measurements, every replacement begins with a Manual J load calculation, every recommendation is based on what the data showed. If that sounds like the way you'd want the work done if it were your own house, you'd fit here.

Why this crew

Why technicians stay. Three reasons that hold up after the first week.

1.

The methodology is real.

Diagnostic-first is not a marketing slogan; it's how the trucks roll. Refrigerant gauges, capacitor meters, manometers, anemometers, IAQ monitors. Trucks are stocked with the instruments because the work requires them. Technicians do not have to fight management to take the time to do it right.

2.

Training is funded, not promised.

EPA Section 608 certification, manufacturer training with Daikin and Goodman, ongoing diagnostic-tool training. The company pays for the training and the time. Apprentices coming up learn the methodology from day one rather than being retrofitted into it.

3.

Owners on the ground.

The Oyler brothers bought the company in 2025. Matt leads ownership, Tim leads financial. CJ Oyler runs the Portland office. Kim Smyth runs the Albany office. Decisions land fast. The standard is set by people who are out on jobs, not behind a private-equity slide deck. The team is small enough that good work is noticed and bad work is corrected directly.

Who we hire

Open roles. Service technicians, install crew, dispatch, apprentices.

Field, full-time

Service Technician

Diagnose, repair, and maintain residential HVAC systems. Run instrumented diagnostics, recommend based on what the measurements show, and stand behind the work after the truck leaves. EPA Section 608 certification preferred; we will sponsor for the right candidate.

Location: Portland or Albany Status: Open
Field, full-time

Install Lead

Lead a two-person install crew on heat pump, furnace, and ductless mini-split replacements. Read the Manual J load calculation, execute the install to manufacturer spec, and verify the system performance before invoicing. Brazing and electrical experience required.

Location: Portland or Albany Status: Open
Field, full-time

Apprentice Technician

Learn the diagnostic-first methodology from day one. Ride with senior technicians, build the skill set, work toward EPA Section 608 and manufacturer certifications on the company's clock. No prior HVAC experience required; mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn the math required.

Location: Portland or Albany Status: Open
Office, full-time

Dispatcher / Customer Care

Answer the line, schedule service, route technicians, and keep customers in the loop. The dispatcher is the first voice every customer hears; the role sets the tone for the visit. HVAC background helpful but not required; we train the technical knowledge.

Location: Portland or Albany Status: Open
Training & tools

The work requires real instruments. We provide them.

Diagnostic-first methodology is a skill set; it requires technicians who know what to measure, how to measure it, and how to interpret the result. Tru72 invests in the training and the tools because the methodology depends on both. Apprentices come up learning it. Senior technicians keep current with manufacturer training and tool refreshes.

If you have been a tech somewhere that handed you a thermometer and a pressure gauge and called it diagnostics, the Tru72 truck stocks the instruments your last shop didn't.

The culture

Built by brothers. Backed by brotherhood.

"The technician on the truck is the company. We give them the tools, the training, and the time to do the work right, and then we get out of their way. The methodology only works if the person doing the work believes in it."

The Oyler Brothers, Owners. Tru72 Heating & Cooling.

What we offer

Pay scales with experience, certifications, and demonstrated diagnostic discipline. Final offer is discussed during the interview based on role and background.

Certifications paid

Tru72 funds EPA Section 608, manufacturer training with Daikin and Goodman, and ongoing diagnostic-tool training, including the time to study and test.

Health benefits

Health, dental, and vision coverage available to full-time employees per the current benefit plan. Specific carriers and contributions discussed at offer.

How to apply

Send the resume. Skip the portal.

No applicant tracking system, no twenty-minute online form, no AI screening. A real person on the team reads your application and replies. If we think there's a fit, you get an interview. If we don't, you get an honest reply, not silence.

For technician roles, the interview includes a practical: a brief diagnostic walkthrough on a working system in the shop, so we can see how you think, and you can see how we think.

Clean. Quality. Comfort.
